Boro Pillow Cover Workshop
Boro Pillow Cover Workshop
This is a workshop I gave about 6 months ago at the Fowler Museum for the LA Textile Guild. This is a more in-depth version of that one day workshop.
In this workshop we will create a cover for a large pillow. You can choose from a square of a rectangular shape. You can even forgo the pillow covering and just create a larger cloth as a beginning for a quilt-like piece. It’s up to you!
Bring your stash of shibori, and your favorite textiles to mix in with my stash of vintage Japanese cloth. I will also provide the base stitching cloth (indigo dyed) as well as the back side cloth for the pillow piece (also indigo dyed).
The pillow design will be envelope style (overlapping on the back) so you can easily slip in your favorite pillow. Check out Ikea or other sources for the insert as I will not provide this.
Although the front side will be hand stitched collage style with sashiko stitching embellishment encouraged, I will bring the sewing machines for assembly of the pillow sham.
All materials and supplies are included. If you have your own special tools or supplies, feel free to bring them along.
The workshop welcomes beginners and long time practitioners-it’s a friendly environment where beginners learn alongside experienced practitioners
We agreed at the last workshop that I will also bring one indigo vat for those wanting to dip some ongoing projects. (I won’t be bringing the “travelling shibori studio".)
